8/10 oops Reply

Clare Feinson Washington, DC June 2, 2026

I got 8/10, which disappoints me because Balak is my very favorite parsha in the Torah and I have studied it, but apparently not enough! Reply

I scored 9/10. And speaking of talking donkeys, it is worth noting that there was a television comedy back a few decades ago called Mr Ed, which involved a similarly talking animal. It just goes to show how the Torah's influence can reach even the most remote of areas and venues Reply

Deborah Lawrence, NJ July 12, 2025

Dear Rabbi,

I scored 9/10. I had the same score in 2024 when I started taking your quizzes. I now read the Torah in 2025 without writing ✍️ any notes like did in 2024. My new method is to read a portion then rest, pause, think about what I just read then answer one or two questions related to the section I read. I do this until I complete all seven sections of reading. But, LOL 😂 I still got the question 7 about Balaam wrong 😑 this year too. Especially, when I promised myself to remember the answer. So, bear with me, this non-Jew studying the Torah in depth for only two years; subject matter that has been studied for 3,300 years. Please be patient with me because I love what I read every Saturday and the explanations from the Jewish scholars. This is knowledge and wisdom not mentioned in other so-called religions. Thank you Chabad and Rabbi for sharing the secrets and posting the writings online for all who seek G-d and want to bound to build a solid foundation with the Almighty One Reply

Rabbi,
A wonderful Parshah and its words, showing the strength of God. Reply

Deborah Lawrence, NJ July 20, 2024

Hello Rabbi,

My score was 9/10. Question #7 was tricky; I reviewed several readings from this week’s session and found nothing on Balaam’s wishful thinking. So, I got it wrong; but I learned from selecting the wrong answer and will remember the correct answer next time: to wish the same fate of the Jewish people also.

Peace,
Deborah Reply

Question #7 is the one question that I got wrong, too Reply

Steve Ky July 18, 2024

Rabbi,
I couldn't find reference to two items in the Parshah:
1) Question 7: where in the Parsha does it say that Balaam said: May my fate be like theirs?
2) Question 10: where in the Parshah does Balaam give the advice: Cause the Jewish people to sin? I know they sinned, but I didn't see where Balaam gave that as advice. Reply

Ezra ben-Pesach WOODSTOCK July 6, 2025

Steve- to my eyes you are correct about #7.
Re: #10- it is in the Rashi (commentary).

9/10 not to bad. Reply

Lawrence Iowa June 22, 2021

Why is "wild ox" not right for question 8? Is numbers 23.22 and 24.8 mentioning "wild ox"? I see that translation differs from Rashi. Reply

Rahel Philadelphia July 21, 2019

Yay! 9 out of 10. Not bad! Reply

Charmaine July 20, 2019

I got 10/10 yah! I have a question:
Why do you blame Balaam for the Sins of the people when they profaned themselves with the Moabite women who invited them to the sacrifice for their god? The people had a reputation of doing egoistic things to suit themselves even though they witnessed all the miracles and heard Gods voice. I do not read anything in the chapter where Balaam told them to do that. According to the reading Balaam did not get any reward and did what the Lord told him to do. Am I missing something in this story that is not in the chapter? Reply

It is always a choice, temptation is all around but it is upto each indivudual to choose. Reply

Apparently, Bilaam successfully tempted the Jewish men to sin with non-Jewish women Reply
